We have plenty of eyesores to choose from but the choice of the recycling facilities in the lower car park, behind the Sports Centre was easily the most worthy.
For more than two years now we have been concerned about persistent problems at this location and have regularly brought these to the notice of North East Derbyshire District Council.
The problems include:
- Persistent fly tipping, which is ongoing
- Receptacles not being emptied before they overflow
- Receptacles not being cleaned resulting in thick layers of grime accumulating. (During last year this grime was removed from a number of the receptacles by Dronfield Civic Society members)
- The emptying of receptacles resulting in the creation of litter across the surrounding area, including broken glass
- Unsightly labels and instructions fixed to receptacles.
We have long been concerned about eyesores in Dronfield, particularly ones that exist for no apparent reason or because the owner or responsible authority is insufficiently motivated to take corrective action.
Unfortunately all too regularly eyesores remain as a blot on the urban landscape, usually degenerating further with time.
Because of this, we have decided to nominate each month an eyesore that will feature as “Eyesore of the Month” in the hope that this publicity will help to encourage people to take appropriate action.
If you have any suggestions for our 'Eyesore of the month award - do please contact us
