K6 Book Exchanges
Once we had decided to turn the K6s into Book Exchanges, the kiosk at Falcon Road was the first to be kitted out with shelves. It was so successful that the conversion of the Coal Aston kiosk on Eckington Road soon followed and finally the one at Holmesdale shops. The Society is extremely grateful to former committee member David Hallam who has looked after the K6s since 2015. The sets of three shelves were increased to five so that more books could be accommodated.
The Book Exchanges were meant to be just that - on a bring one, take one basis. But sadly managing the kiosks is not always an easy job, particularly when bags of books are left on the floor after the pre and post-Christmas clear outs. Two of the K6s are now in need of major refurbishment including repainting, re-glazing and repairs to the doors. We would really like to find a team of dedicated K6 enthusiasts who can help us restore these quintessentially British items of heritage street furniture.
